Develop inclusion strategies through understanding your diversity

Focus on the right things. Right now.

Make Your Measurement Meaningful

“Diversity” is often considered in terms of a ratio measure. What percentage of your workforce is African American or Latinx? How many women are on your executive leadership team? The questions are valuable, but limiting: we attract and retain diversity when a genuine appreciation of differences is demonstrated in the workplace. Simply counting people doesn’t encourage this – we need to be beyond counting and create context, understanding what’s driving and limiting diverse and inclusive practices.

We cannot get to the heart of an issue unless we understand it from multiple perspectives, not just our own.

“Allowing two truths to exist at the same time is the foundation for inclusion.”

Doug Harris, CEO of The Kaleidoscope Group

Our perceptions define how we see our workplace and how we presume others do too. This leads us to over or under-valuing a certain point of view, making it harder to develop inclusion and making diversity meaningful. We need an objective standard to help shape our understanding and way forward.
